A new chapter for Photon Energy.

Since 2006, when Photon Energy began as a four-person team, we have grown steadily, building a reputation for engineering excellence, quality solar PV and battery storage installation.

1st October 2025 marks an important milestone. Photon Energy was acquired by Project Better Energy (PBE).

Back in 2006, Photon was started with four founders: Lucy Aitchison, Jonathan Bates, Michael Holmes and Rolf Oldach. Over the years, we have grown to nearly 60 employees and have installed more than 115 MW of solar PV across the UK. It has been a journey of engineering care and precision, strong service and continuous improvement. With Rolf retiring and Lucy’s death, we have experienced change and loss. It made us even more determined to carry on the values and standards that these founders have instilled.

Why this decision now? It was not a decision made lightly. Our people have always been at the heart of everything we do, our team, our clients, our partners. In joining forces with PBE, we believe we are ensuring the best possible future for our people and our business. We see this as the right step, preserving Photon’s values and high standards, while gaining the capability and backing the scale further, to serve more clients, and to continue delivering the kind of work for which we have been known.

Even as we transition into this next phase, one thing remains unchanged: our commitment to operating to the highest standards, to being among the best of the best, as always. We will continue delivering the engineering excellence, the service depth and the reliability our clients rely on.

Joining with PBE opens opportunities to broaden our services and to leverage additional resources. We anticipate this will support our ambitions, our staff’s careers, and our clients’ ambitions for net zero, energy resilience and long-term value.

We remain Photon Energy in essence, with the same care, the same quality and now a new chapter.
