Off-grid and Specialist Systems

NICEIC acts as the electrical contracting industry’s independent voluntary regulatory body Renewable Energy Assurance Listed, guaranteeing a high quality experience for consumers

Off-grid Systems

Photon Energy also installs wind and solar PV systems for isolated ‘off-grid’ locations. These systems use the output from the PV array or wind turbine for charging batteries and can also be used alongside a diesel generator.

Off-grid systems can produce either AC or DC output. For an AC system, an inverter is required to convert the DC produced by the batteries. AC systems can provide power for conventional AC appliances such as fridges, televisions etc.

Solar Trackers

Photon Energy installs specialist systems such as solar trackers. The solar PV array is mounted on a special support structure that tracks the movement of the sun over the course of the day. These systems can either use single-axis or dual-axis tracking. The use of such a system can increase the energy obtained from the PV system by as much as 25%, although they are generally more expensive than a conventional fixed mounting structure.
