Feasibility Studies, Site Assessments & Planning

Feasibility Studies and Site Assessments

Many people are confused about the choice of technologies that are available and are unsure of the options that will be appropriate for their situation. We are happy to advise on the feasibility of the various technologies that we offer.

If you are confident in your choice of technology, we would normally complete a site assessment prior to preparing a quotation. The site assessment will enable us to provide a firm quotation for the design, supply and installation of a renewable energy system. We will also be able to identify any issues that may reduce the system's performance (such as shading in the case of solar PV or nearby obstructions in the case of a wind turbine). If there are any unusual requirements, we are able to visit the site (we may make a charge for this to cover our costs but this is refundable against an order).

Planning Permission

Planning permission can be a very complicated area with different regulations applying to different technologies in different areas.

If you are considering a wind turbine, you will need planning permission unless you have specific permitted development rights.

If you are considering Solar PV or Solar Water Heating, these have permitted development rights on domestic dwellings and do not generally need planning permission. However, if you want to install one of these technologies on a non-domestic building, a listed building, or you are in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) or a Conservation Area then you will need planning permission.

If you require assistance with planning a planning application we are happy to provide technical support or can recommend a consultant to make an application on your behalf.
